“They offer over 140 cheeses, tons of meats - some that are their very own recipe - local wines, and more candy than you could dream of. Now that’s the Sweetness of Ohio!!” - Tara

Locally Owned with Love!

Tom & Lisa - Owners

Intro:

It’s nearly impossible to go through Port Clinton and not make a stop at Cheesehaven. I mean, the name is CHEESEHAVEN and everyone loves cheese. The name doesn’t fully describe all of the greatness inside! People from around Ohio make it a point to travel to Port Clinton to shop here and they often see folks from other states!

History:

Cheesehaven was founded in 1949 when a local man learned that cheese sells way easier than produce, by selling out of swiss and tossing bad tomatoes. In 2010, Tom and his lovely wife, Lisa left their careers and took ownership of the company from Tom’s retired father. Reviews indicate that the energy shifted and people were excited to be around Tom and Lisa and to support their success! They are excited to share their family history, their love for their business and community, and it radiates through the entire building.

Tom & Lisa share their family’s rich history and how they came to obtain Cheesehaven.

Products:

I have never seen so many cheese options in my life! My eyes were drawn to the local, aged cheeses and salt water taffys, but my heart was drawn to their exclusive “Bitch” wine! You heard that right- that’ll start a conversation!

I was excited to see “Ohio Made” on so many products, including Heineman Winery, out of Put-in-Bay and Gideon Winery just up the road. Candies made right in Cleveland lined the shelves, and the cooler had many meat snacks made of Ohio raised beef. I love how involved Tom and Lisa are in their community by including their neighbors in their business.

Tara’s final thoughts:

My experience at Cheesehaven can only be described as wholesome. I guarantee that people come just to see Tom and Lisa because they are the most sweet and kind couple you could have the pleasure of meeting! They intend to pass their love of their community and their physical business to their son one day to continue providing local, quality products: and that makes them a true Sweetness of Ohio™.
